Republic of Korea Air Force Aircraft Size Comparison


Also known as ROKAF, the South Korean Air Force has been part of the best air forces in the world. They have an excellent combination of imported and locally developed aircraft. It’s in service under the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea. Hence, in this article, let’s compare the aircraft sizes that the Republic of Korea Air Force has ever operated.


SMALLEST AIRCRAFT

Let’s start with South Korea’s smallest aircraft, the KAI KT-1 Woongbi, and the North American AT-6F Texan. According to american heritage museum.org, the AT-6F measures 29.6-ft long, 11.8-ft tall, with a wingspan of 42-ft. On the other hand, the KT-1 measures around 33.6-ft long, 12.07-ft tall, and has a wingspan of 34.78-ft, as stated on militaryfatory.com. In context, South Korea’s smallest fighter jets measure about half as long as a bowling lane, about two-thirds as tall as a Giraffe, and as wide as the length of three Volkswagen Beetles. 


AVERAGE-SIZED AIRCRAFT

Next, we have South Korea’s average-sized aircraft, the KAI T-50 and the Northrop KF-5E. According to flightglobal.com, the T-50 measures around 43.1-ft long, 16.2-ft tall, with a wingspan of 31-ft. On the other hand, the KF-5E measures 47-ft long, 13.12-ft tall, and has a wingspan of 26.4-ft, as stated on airforce-technology.com. In context, an average-sized ROKAF aircraft measures half as long as the distance between baseball diamond bases, about twice as tall as Shaq, and twice as wide as a Volkswagen Beetle’s length. 


LARGEST AIRCRAFT

Lastly, we have South Korea’s largest aircraft ever operated, the Curtiss C-46. According to aviation-history.com, the C-46 measures 76.4-ft long, 21.9-ft tall, with a wingspan of 108-ft. If we look at it differently, South Korea’s largest aircraft ever operated measures thrice as long as a London bus, thrice as tall as Shaq, and half as wide as a Boeing 747’s wingspan.
